The WA Police Pipe Band, winners of the Australian Pipe Band Championships in Ballarat, Victoria will be doing a victory march today through the city.
The band won the title ahead of the Queensland Highlanders on Sunday in Grade One. It was the first time WA Police has won the national title, last competing in the event in the late 1990s. They also won Best Drum Corps and Best Dressed Band, ahead of 46 competing bands.
At midday the band will march from the corner of Hay and Barrack Streets, through the mall to Hay and William Streets then back through the mall to Hay and Barrack Streets.
The band will be performing their popular tunes and at the end of the march, members of the public will be able to talk to band members and purchase the band’s latest CD. Proceeds from the sale of the CD assist the band in funding their performance expenses.
